Granny's Analysis of the NFL Season Kickoff

Ok, the first game is in the books!  And what a game, huh?  The over-under was around 30, the score never even got close!  Now, I love a good battle of the defenses (Steelers-Ravens AFC Championship game was the best!) but last night was more about the misses than the hits.
Tennesee was definitely a victim of Ben's clutch game winning drives.  They dominated for most of the game but just wore down.  I was pleased to see that Collins is still solid (although I agree with my husband that he just doesn't have what it takes to carry a team through to a Super Bowl).  And he looks like an old loadie!

Chris Johnston is going to get the majority of the carries unless White can get his act together.  Remember a couple of years ago when the Vince Young-LenDale White combo was supposed to take the NFL by storm???  What a loser that duo is, huh?

I hope Troy Polamalu bounces back from the MCL strain because the Steelers defense showed how much they depend on him with a serious drop off after he left the game.  Farrior is a real meat-eater though, and is a joy to watch.

Big Surprise:  How the Tennessee defense shut down the Steelers ground game.  Wow.  Now Ben holds a pocket better than just about anyone but without a running game he is gonna be in trouble.

Biggest Surprise:  How much I didn't miss John Madden.  I expected to really feel his absence in the booth but I like the combo of Collingsworth and Michaels.  They both know their stuff and are entertaining without getting goofy.  This could be good...

And how about Jeff Fisher.  Is he a genius or what?
Tomlin will be a Hall-of-Fame coach.  There's my prediction.  Take it to the bank.

Missing field goals at home is BAD.  REALLY BAD.  Like, Grammatica bad.

I forgave Hines Ward almost immediately after he dropped the ball (almost).  He is one of the most solid players on the Steelers year in and year out.  Everyone gets one, right?

I'm looking forward to the rest of the weekend and am SOOO happy football is back!

  1. It's really nice to have someone write about football for everyone in the league. We should all be so lucky to have a gal like Gridiron Granny take time out of her busy life to write for us and add some spice to our fantasy football season. Thanks, Beth.
